Stumptown Comics Fest Report

I had a good time at the Stumptown Comics Fest yesterday. It was good to see some close friends whom I have missed for several months—Kip, Jenn, Chris, and Barry in particular—and catch up with other great personages in the local comics scene. I also got to meet some folks whose work I have admired, including Bill Mudron and Erika Moen, whose I Like Girls I wrote about recently. If you do not know from Mr. Mudron, check out his Anne Frank Conquers the Moon Nazis story line. It's insane, yet delightfully rendered.

I should apologize, however, for my inept and confused moderation of the political cartoonists panel, especially to Barry, Shannon and Scott. For some reason I thought the indefatigable Indigo was to moderate, so I was not prepared. Hence I winged it. Hence the strangely worded, tangential questions. And I owe Barry another apology for misidentifying his cartoon, which I always thought was "Amptoons" and not "Ampersand" which is what it really is. Bad moderator. Bad reader, too, apparently. Oy. Nonetheless, I think we had fun and an interesting discussion on politics and cartooning anyway. It all came to a sudden halt when a pagan in the audience stated her belief that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would be best resolved by wiping out the people and thus saving the land itself, which she contended was being "wounded." Er. Right. Rocks, not people. Very good.

Oh, yeah, and I made seven bucks! Woo-hoo! Maybe I oughtta sell my 2001 anthology online and maybe put out more anthologies. What a brilliant concept! Why has no one thought to use the Internet to market their wares before?! It's a goldmine!

Oy.

UPDATE: Scott Bateman has written his own take on the convention, along with some sketches he rendered in his journal. Funny stuff. Go read!

Well, I frequently think that both the Israelis and the Palestinians should be sent to their respective rooms without supper and forced to stay there until they're willing to behave... but that's not really the same thing, is it ?

Besides which, I'm not pagan.
