When I told Jenn my intentions for this week's cartoon, she gave me these wise words of advice: "Don't be mean." I assured her that I would make no jokes about Alzheimer's—mostly cuz I don't find the disease funny in the first place. But regardless of that personal qualm, the Reagan legacy presents plenty of material for a satirist to work with. I hope my meager effort provides you some relief from the wall-to-wall necrofellatio currently rewriting history.
Now at last nothing stands in the way of the marriage of Nancy Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. The spawn of Satan's reign is nigh.
Posted by: J. Pinkham at June 7, 2004 12:54 AMDon't forget what may be the worst of Ronnie's "Legacy": he made BabyBush possible by giving us Antonin Scalia.
Posted by: John Harvey at June 7, 2004 06:17 AMI thought of that omission this morning as I listened to Nina Totenberg's report on Reagan's SC nominations. He appointed Rhenquist to the Chief Justice spot, too, and gave us Kennedy & O'Connor as well—Kennedy only after the Bork fiasco. Even without Scalia, the court went rightward; with him, of course, we have a boil that we can't lance.
