Regarding Radio Host Ed Schultz

There has been some discussion in the comments area of this blog regarding Ed Schultz, the "read meat eating liberal" on KPOJ. (Note: Ed is not part of Air America radio. He is simply syndicated on the Portland radio station which locally airs Air America content, among other stations.)

FYI, I thought I'd offer links to the Real Audio and text transcript versions of a January 9th interview with Schultz on NPR's rather nifty "On the Media" media analysis program, by Bob Garfield. Garfield provides background info on Schultz and asks the man some tough questions. So, without further ado... Ed Schultz interview, Real Audio / Text transcript.

I just heard Randi Rhodes mention that her show was going to be kicking Ed Schultz's show out of its slot here in Portland. She said it was only still there because of "contractual obligations." Whether or not this means the show will be gone for good or moved to another slot I'm not certain.

Ed Schultz is in talk radio for one reason - money. He is not a true liberal. He is in favor of increasing the size of our already enormous military. He may not be a friend of the Bush administration, but he's no friend to pacifists either. I listen to America Left on XM Satellite Radio, and I'm disappointed that they have chosen to preempt the first three hours of Randi Rhodes with Ed Schultz's thinly disguised attempt to make money by pretending to be a liberal talk radio host.

So what. He is great and can rally the middle of the road and liberals. Rush use to be on welfare or unemployment, takes drugs. Think he really believes the BS he says?

Radio in this country should be something to help bring everyone together. Of course, with the influence of the Right Wing Radicals, the power of Radio is used to divide people from their best interests.

Ed Schultz represents the best communications to help the people. Thank you for being there to promote Americanism.

Thanks a lot,
