According to OPB, Franken will be heard on KPOJ (620AM) in direct competition with Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh (links to The Weekly Standard take, which is, surprise, not supportive). He debuts 9am Monday with a three-hour show. I'll listen to it. After all, I listen to O'Reilly...for about ten seconds before I roll my eyes and look for some Ozzy. Which is fair and balanced. I treat Stern (pronounced: "Stur-her-her-herrrrn") the same way. Franken will probably get more of my attention. My main curiousity: Forget beating Limbaugh et al—will he better fellow SNL alumn Harry Shearer's Le Show?
Or fellow SNL alumn Dennis Miller?

Posted by: Raznor at March 30, 2004 06:52 PMAnd now for an irony free reaction: I could imagine the show being really boring. Franken is really dry. But I'll give it a shot, too.
I wish David Lynch would get a morning radio show. "Wake Up with David Lynch." He would perk everyone up with his love of coffee and donuts.
Posted by: J. Pinkham at March 30, 2004 09:22 PMFranken was OK, although his show wasn't as theatric when he had guests Bob Kerrey and Michael Moore on.
Right now, I'm listening to Ed Schultz, a host from North Dakota who has a booming Limbaughesque voice and that "big guy giggle" that Limbaugh also has.
Waiting for Randi "BROW-WARD!" Rhodes and Janeane Garofalo tonight....
Posted by: Aaron V. at March 31, 2004 12:49 PMHere's a somewhat amusing factoid. I have one of those crappy radio alarm clocks on which you set the station with a dial, rather than digitally. In order to switch from FM to AM you flip a switch. Coincidentally (?) enough, KPOJ is located exactly at the point on the AM dial that KOPB, the NPR station is located on the FM dial. Makes it easy for me, because those are the only two stations I'd bother listening to anyway.
I support KBOO as a theory but listening-wise, it's just so full of music that I don't like that I end up keeping my dial on NPR.
Posted by: J. Pinkham at March 31, 2004 05:38 PMHey, that almost works on my radio at work.
Right now there's a lot of Nader-bashing. Yay! Just what I wanted to hear—my fellow Democrats wasting time bashing Nader. With commercials.
Posted by: Kevin Moore at March 31, 2004 05:47 PMI've been listening and have been pretty bored so far, except during the interesting and amusing interview with Larry David. There is not a big thrill to me in hearing people say things I agree with if they aren't saying it in a new or interesting way. The whole rambling conversational thing... I dunno. Not that it's any worse than conservative talk radio. But I used to listen to a left-leaning talk show host in Seattle that I liked alot. So I suppose I have to blame it on the hosts so far, just because I have experienced pleasure in listening to political talk radio and am not so far. Haven't heard all the hosts yet. And this is coming from a guy who would like to have Janeane Garafalo's baby.
