If you read my post on the neo-con reaction to the Spanish presidential election, then you'll know where my inspiration for this week's cartoon comes from. Well, that and Gustave Doré—but that goes without saying.
There were a couple of references to 11 marzo in Saturday's peace march - one person had a Spanish flag, there was one "Viva Espana" sign.
Not to mention a number of veterans and families of troops present - why weren't they at the Clear Channel Support the Troops rally? (Oh, the weathervane was pointing away from Supporting the Troops now, and Clear Channel stopped doing them....)

Posted by: Raznor at March 22, 2004 10:57 AMThe individual personality you put into the expressions on the faces of the animals Don Quixote and Sancho Panza are riding is amazing.
Posted by: J. Pinkham at March 22, 2004 12:03 PMThanks! Gosh, blush, etc. You guys know how to make a gal feel special.
I can't take all the credit: Sancho Panza is lifted almost completely off Doré's rendering. The burro might come to me via Tex Avery, as so many things do. The don himself was based more on Jean Rochefort's portrayal—though I'm pretty sure Terry Gilliam had Doré in mind anyway.
