The title for this week's cartoon, "The Best Blood..." comes from a quote by Austin O'Malley: "The best blood will at some time get into a fool or a mosquito." I'm switchin' out the pedigree connotations of O'Malley's use of "best blood" in exchange for a more aggrieved and more sentimental sense relevant to the victims of September 11th. You can guess who the fool is. (Or mosquito, take your pick.)
I won't rehearse any talking points here regarding Bush's use of 9-11 imagery in a recent campaign ad; you've probably heard enough ad nauseum. But I do find it puzzling that his apologists count among their talking points the rejoinder, "Well, John Kerry is always talking about Vietnam!" Do they really want to compare John Kerry's record in Vietnam with Bush's? I thought they were trying to get away from that subject. Still, perhaps it's better than having to defend—in an honest way—the real failures of the "War on Terror." Osama bin Who? Iraqi quag-what? Well, at least Afghanistan's free. Oh, wait...no, it isn't.
This is one of the least funny but most moving toons I've ever seen of yours, Kevin. Good one.
Posted by: Raznor at March 7, 2004 09:57 PMEvery once in a while, Kevin, your anger nearly overwhelms your humor - and I like it. Not as a steady diet, you understand, but it is refreshing to see (...to be forced to see...) the plain and unvarnished truth from time-to-time.
Keep up the good work so the rest of us will keep up the good fight.
