With all due respect to Missy Elliott, who deserves any number of honors for her linguistic and vocal facility (sure, I coulda sed "props for her raps" but I'm pretentious and over 30), Johnny Cash would have brought a touch of class to the event. Now such duties will have to fall on the bare shoulders of Christina Aguilera.
Well, at least two of the artists acknowledged as much in their acceptance/presentations (Justin T. and Snoop).
While it's true that 50 cents stylings are fairly banal in comparison to other rap big names, I did enjoy the point where the stage raised to reveal the Family Fued like Tableaux of Snoop Dawg in his throne surrounded by his pimps for the song P.I.M.P.. It all seemed to be 'thematic' when the show started with Brit and Christina in their 'hooker with a heart of gold' routines. This years VMA's were certainly not even close to being the best, but for me their were a few nice moments of happily snickering glee at the 'Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous' (Thx. Good Charlotte)
Salute!
